Data Science Intern

Overview

Gnip is a fast growing start-up at the center of the Social Media and Big Data revolution. Gnip's software collects, processes and delivers hundreds of millions of social media activities a day. We are looking for a Data Science Intern to help collect, prepare, analyze and visualize gobs of Social Media data. Your work will help Gnip's customers understand the value and opportunity of using social media data to track brand sentiment, understand the spread of social memes, create signals for automated stock trading systems, monitor natural disasters as well as hundreds of other applications.

Position Description

You'll be working as part of a small big data team in downtown Boulder, CO. Plan to spend the summer. You need to be a fast learner and a resourceful problem solver. You might be a junior or senior in college or starting graduate school with coursework in statistics, data analysis, probability, or machine learning. You might be majoring in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science or physical science or similar technical field. You are curious.

Desired Skills

• Mad command line tool skills (grep, uniq, sed, etc.)
• Experience with Python with Scipy, Numpy, MatPlotLib... or comparable Ruby experience
• R, ggplot
• Some SQL and/or NoSQL database experience may be useful
• Expert MS Excel
• Verbal, written communication skills
